The main themes will be fine mapping, genome-wide association studies and genomic selection. A new feature will be the release of a data set for shared analysis, to enable a comparison of different methods. We particularly invite proposals based on this data set. Successful submissions for this project will be published in a special supplement by BMC Genetics and participating students and postdocs (limited to one per group, 5 in total) will qualify for a reduced conference fee. The Collaborative Cross is a randomized cross of eight inbred mouse strains designed by members of the Complex Trait Consortium, an international group of scientists (geneticists, molecular biologists, bioinformaticists, statisticians, etc.) working to identify networks of genes and allelic variants that modulate complex phenotypes in diverse environments. The Collaborative Cross features a randomized assortment of 8 inbred strains. The lines are first crossed pairwise to make all 56 possible G1 parents. A set of possible 4-way crosses is performed, keeping Y-chromosome and mitochondrial balance. Finally, all 8 genomes are brought together in G2:F1, and the offspring of this cross are inbred. Based on theoretical results, 90% inbreeding is expected at G2:F20. The function of this position is to develop and manage this nationally recognized project for production, characterization and dissemination of mouse resources developed by the SGG. The successful candidate will lead a large team in a dynamic environment to execute diverse aspects of the Collaborative Cross within allotted resources and in coordination with the scientific direction of the SGG. Responsibilities & Qualifications: Responsibilities: * managing the mouse resource core, publicizing its use, and interfacing with users in the execution of internal and external research collaborations * using resources to meet commitments to mouse production, characterization, and distribution * providing reports and summaries to users, management, and program leads ensuring that intellectual property, safety, and animal care protections are met through evaluation, protocol preparation, and execution * reporting usage statistics and managing the budget of the facility * ensuring data integrity and record management for the coordination of mice, samples, and results * implementing quality procedures for mouse production and distribution by instituting and adhering to standards and practices developed by the Federation of International Mouse Repositories or other similar bodies * coordinating meetings with external advisory board. Qualifications: Proven ability to manage a team project, prepare presentations, documentation, publicity, budgets, and grant applications is required. Experimental design skills, preferably with background in complex trait genetics, and familiarity with data analysis and data presentation are essential.
